Sens Win 4-1

Two words about this game.  Jason Spezza.

Spezza would score once and add 3 helpers, including an absolutely gorgeous cross-ice pass to Sergei Gonchar for the game’s first goal, to lead the Sens to victory.  Peter Regin added 2 assists, with David Hale scoring his first goal as an Ottawa Senator.

Two more words. Brian Elliott.

Elliott made 28 saves, none bigger than 2 shorthanded breakaways by Blake Comeau & Frans Nielsen in the 3rd period to preserve the 2 goal lead.  Elliott was there when the team needed him most and was able to shut the door on an Islander team that was coming on strong late in the game.

The Senators are now a .500 club and are slowly moving up the standings.  The Sens will visit the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday, and will be a significantly different club than when they first played the Canadiens on Oct 16 & 23.

Here are Elliott, Hale, Spezza & Regin on the 2 big shorthanded saves and Scott Gordon on the performance of his team.
