Sens Win 2-1 over Predators

Check out the highlights

The Sens began Thursday evening playing a pretty good road game.  Much-needed contributions from Alex Kovalev & Nick Foligno put the team out in front 2-0 midway through the 2nd period and the Sens looked to be in charge.  Despite, a Marcel Goc tip that closed the lead within one, Brian Elliott was sharp, making several key saves and kept the Sens in front.

The final period was classic Nashville Predators hockey.  Some chances at both ends, but pretty much a tight checking effort.  Nothing would change and the Senators would go into the Christmas break with a 2-1 win over the Predators.  The Senators would go 4 for 4 on the penalty kill and outplay the Predators for most of the game.

Erik Karlsson played an incredible 26:25 and is slowly rounding back into the form he showed late last season.  Brian Lee, who was inserted into the lineup in place of Matt Carkner, played 15:19 of smart, simple hockey.  Meanwhile, despite being moved to the 4th line, Alex Kovalev’s ice time was still greater than his replacement Ryan Shannon’s, out-icing him 12:37 to 11:27.

A big win before a small Christmas break for the Senators.  They’ll need the confidence as the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins are coming to Ottawa on Boxing Day.  Sidney Crosby will be bringing his 23 game point streak to SBP…..will the Senators be the team to put it to an end?  We’ll have to wait and see…
