Sens Lose 2-1 to Lightning

Check out the highlights

Another game, another heartbreaker.

The Senators played 2 periods of terrific hockey versus one of the most explosive offences in the league and yet, it still didn’t matter.  The Lightning took advantage of turnovers and momentary lapses in defensive play to score 2 early in the third and rode that lead all the way to victory.  The Senators had multiple chances to take the lead or tie the game, but Dwayne Roloson stood on his head, making 26 saves and could thank the post for being his friend.

The Senators just couldn’t finish.  Michalek missed open nets twice, and numerous Senators (I’m looking at you Chris Campoli) couldn’t hit the net when opportunity arose.  Limiting the Tampa Bay Lightning, with players such as Stamkos, St. Louis & Lecavalier, to 2 goals is an accomplishment.  However, if you do not make them pay when you have the chance, it will come back and bite you, and it BIT THE SENATORS HARD TONIGHT.

Add to all of this, another injury.  Mike Fisher blocked a shot in the third period and left the ice hobbling.  He attempted to return but felt some discomfort, forcing him to leave the game and not return.  The team is stating that its a lower body injury and an update should come over the next couple of days.

Who knows what this means for the franchise.  Is this Cory Clouston’s last game?  Do they officially throw in the towel?  This next week is going to be a telling one for the Ottawa Senators.  Should be interesting.

Here’s Cory Clouston and Zack Smith on the heartbreaking loss….
