Phillips Signs 3-Year Extension

The Ottawa Senators and defenceman Chris Phillips have reportedly come to agreement on a 3-year extension.  It is said to be a $9.25 million dollar deal that includes a no movement clause.

My take:  Chris Phillips never wanted to go and made it known publicly on several occasions.  A cap hit of $3 million for a player that openly wants the mentor role on a rebuilding team seems to be a bargain.  Phillips has been a mainstay on the blueline for the Senators since he was drafted first overall during the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and will one day see his No. 4 rise into the rafters of Scotiabank Place.

Here’s Chris Phillips talking about the deal Monday morning.
