Sens Win 2-1 Over Lightning

Check out the highlights

Sens opened the scoring in the first.  After the Senators killed off a penalty, Jason Spezza would answer on a PP of their own, backhanding one by Roloson and making it 1-0 Senators.  Curtis McElhinney made 6 stops, including a huge glove save on Nate Thompson.

The Senators added to their lead in the second.  Sergei Gonchar found a wide open Bobby Butler, who slid it along the ice and by Roloson to make it 2-0.  McElhinney made 9 more saves, including 2 breakaways on Vinny Lecavalier and a poke check on Steven Stamkos.

The Lightning finally got on the board in the third.  After Winchester & Foligno took minors at the same time, Teddy Purcell & Marty St. Louis wacked at a puck in the crease with St. Louis getting credit for the goal and the lead was down to 1.  They kept coming as Bobby Butler was called for 2 minor penalties within a 3 minute span midway through the period.  Multiple shots by Lecavalier, Bergenheim, Stamkos & St. Louis were all stopped by McElhinney, some in spectacular fashion.  The Lighning outshot the Sens 20-4 in the third but were unable to beat McElhinney again, resulting in a third straight 2-1 victory for the Ottawa Senators.

Curtis McElhinney was spectacular, especially in the second half of the game, when the Senators looked like they were just trying to hang on.  Vinny Lecavalier will have nightmares after this one as he directed 12 shots towards the Ottawa net, all of which were tied in to McElhinney’s 34 saves.
