Sens Win 5-2 Over Flyers

Check out the highlights

The Philadelphia Flyers started the night tied with the Washington Capitals atop the Eastern Conference.  A win on Tuesday night would help them on their quest for home ice advantage and give the team some much needed momentum.  Standing in their way, an overachieving Senators club that seemed to have their number.

The teams traded power-play goals in the first, with Mike Richards and Nick Foligno tallying the goals.  Richards would then put the Flyers up 1 in the second by connecting on a one-timer from Nikolai Zherdev on yet another Philadelphia power-play.  The Sens countered when Ryan Shannon wristed one from the point that made its way by a screened Sergei Bobrovsky and yes, it was on the power-play.  With only 14 seconds left in the period, Bobby Butler was sent in alone by Zack Smith, deking Bobrovsky and all of a sudden, the never-say-die Senators were up 3-2.

Onto the third where Jason Spezza decided to add to his already impressive totals.  Spezza had recorded 3 assists before notching a PP goal at 8:02, his 4th point of the night and 20th goal of the season.  An empty net goal from Milan Michalek and that’s all she wrote.  A 5-2 win for the Senators and a loss that the Flyers couldn’t afford.

Here’s Claude Giroux and Kris Versteeg on the devastating loss and their team’s play.
