Senators Acquire Nikita Filatov; Day 2 of Draft

The Senators traded the 66th pick overall to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday morning for former first round pick, Nikita Filatov.  Filatov was selected 6th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  During the 2009-10 season, Filatov was unhappy with his situation in Columbus (playing time, role) and was loaned to CSKA Moscow of the KHL.  He returned to Columbus last season, recording 7 assists in 23 games before being demoted to Springfield of the AHL.  Filatov won 2 bronze medals at the World Junior Championships with Team Russia, as well as being named to the Tournament All-Star team in 2009.  A gamble that is well worth the risk.

Forgotten why he was selected 6th overall?  Here are some of his highlights from the World Juniors.

With the 61st overall pick, the Senators selected LW Shane Prince. Prince scored 25 goals and added 63 assists in 59 games with the Ottawa 67’s last season.  Prince is the 3rd Ottawa 67’s player chosen by the hometown Senators (Corey Cowick & Will Colbert are the others).
