Kovalev Blasts Ottawa Media & Cory Clouston

In a recent interview with Russian newspaper, Sovetsky Sport, former Senator Alex Kovalev did not have the nicest things to say about his time in Ottawa, more specifically, the Ottawa media and ex-coach Cory Clouston.

In regards to Ottawa journalists, he said they “don’t watch hockey at all. When they fly with the team and go through the [metal detector] at an airport, their bags are filled with beer.”

When speaking about Cory Clouston, he admitted, “In two seasons I still couldn’t understand the ideas of our coach Cory Clouston. It seemed that he scoffed at some players.” You have to treat players kindly. If you leave someone on the bench you should explain why it happened. This is coach’s job. But when a player is benched and doesn’t understand what is happening, he becomes lost.”

The interview was conducted by Pavel Lysenkov of Sovetsky Sport and was translated by Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo Sports.  To see the entire excerpt, please click the link.
