This game was one of milestones for the Ottawa Senators.  Jason Spezza scored his 199th & 200th career NHL goals in the first period, while David Rundblad scored his first ever NHL goal in the second to lead the Senators to a 4-3 victory.  Craig Anderson made 34 saves, including several key glove saves in the second frame.  Zack Smith was flying all night, chipping in with a goal, a penalty and many big hits.  He took exception to a hit into the boards from Tuomu Ruutu early on, and then used it as motivation to direct punishment on those in his path for the remainder of the game.

The Senators penalty kill was another reason for the win.  They were able to successfully fight off 7 Hurricane power-plays, only falling to victim to a late PP goal by Alexei Ponikarovsky.  Erik Karlsson’s 2 assists put him on top of the league for points by a defencemen (21), while the victory moved the team over the .500 mark once again (11-10-2).  The Senators get the Jets in Winnipeg on Tuesday night.

Here’s Jason Spezza on finally scoring & how the team played.
