Senators Lose 3-2 (OT) to Capitals

Check out the highlights

Despite coming from behind twice to tie the game, the Ottawa Senators could not hold off the Washington Capitals on Saturday night, losing 3-2 in overtime.  Brooks Laich scored the winner just 12 seconds into the overtime period, taking a pass from Jason Chimera and sliding it by Craig Anderson.  Tonight’s contest marked the 500th NHL game of Laich’s career and also served as the first NHL head coaching win for Dale Hunter.  The Capitals snapped a 4 game losing streak and will not play another Saturday night home game until March 31st.

As for the Sens, it was a good effort in a losing cause.  Erik Karlsson & Milan Michalek scored for Ottawa, while Chris Neil returned after missing 9 games (Nikita Filatov was a healthy scratch).  Michalek’s goal was his 16th of the season, tying him with Phil Kessel &  Steven Stamkos for the NHL lead.  As has been the case for the past couple of weeks, the Senators penalty killing was one of the night’s bright spots, going 4-4.

Ottawa returns home for a Monday visit with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
