Senators Win 4-2 Over Lightning

Check out the highlights

Fanned shots, sloppy passing and missed opportunities plagued the Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators Monday night.  Both teams were guilty of executing poorly, leading to a 1-1 draw heading into the third.  Zack Smith & Bruno Gervais scored within the first 40 minutes of a game many thought would be void of any offence.

One Senator in particular was having a rough night and that person was defenceman Erik Karlsson.  Karlsson was turning the puck over on a consistent basis, making  many poor decisions in his own zone.  His decision to try and skate the puck out o f the defensive zone early in the third would count as one of those times. Karlsson had his pocket picked by Steven Stamkos, who would then send Martin St. Louis in alone on Craig Anderson.  St. Louis made no mistake going high on the Senators goaltender and the Lightning had the lead at the 3:35 mark of the third.

But leave it to the captain to get things going as No. 11 would take a drop pass from Jason Spezza and wire it by Roloson to even the score for a second time.  Then, about 7 minutes later, Alfredsson’s wide shot on net was found by Nick Foligno and wrapped around through the Lightning goaltender to give the the Sens the lead for the first time in the contest.  Finally, with less than 4 minutes left in the game, Zack Smith finished it off, scoring his 2nd goal of the game & 8th of the season to give the Senators a 4-2 victory.
