This game got crazy right off the get go.  1:10 in and the Senators’ Zack Smith had taken a penalty for hooking and Alex Edler’s wrister from the point had eluded Craig Anderson to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.

Then, it got crazier.  After Ryan Kesler made it 2-0, Nick Foligno’s attempt to finish a check on Cody Hodgson resulted in something much more substantial when Hodgson fell right in front of him.  Foligno ended up creaming Hodgson, causing Hodgson to stumble his way off the ice and to the locker room.  Naturally, in this league, that means you have to fight, and fight Foligno did.  Dale Wiese challenged Foligno and both gave the fans a good show.

The second period saw Ryan Kesler add his 2nd goal of the game on the power-play before becoming the victim of yet another Nick Foligno hit.  This time, however, it wasn’t quite so innocent as Foligno was given 2 minutes for boarding and a 10 minute misconduct.  A good move by the referees as they needed to calm things down before things got really ridiculous.  Just before the end of the frame, Colin Greening scored his 7th of the season and the Senators were down 2 going into the third.

The Senators were given a grand opportunity in the final 20 minutes but failed to capitalize.  A 5 on 3 penalty would go for not as the Senators couldn’t even muster a shot on net.  A Dale Wiese goal with 3:30 left and that’s all she wrote, a 4-1 Canucks win.

After the game, coach Alain Vigneault said that Cody Hodgson was fine and would most likely play in the Canucks next game.  Ottawa’s power-play failed them once again, going 0-4, while Nick Foligno’s 6-game point streak came to an end.  The Senators next game is on Tuesday night when they travel to Buffalo to meet the Sabres.

Here’s Ryan Kesler, Nick Foligno & Dale Wiese talking about Foligno’s hits and their consequences.
