Senators Lose 6-2 to Canadiens

Check out the highlights

The Canadiens came into this game having lost their past 5 contests, with the past 4 being under new head coach Randy Cunneyworth.   The Senators knew that attacking this struggling Montreal franchise early was of extreme importance and that the first goal of the game could give the Habs a sense of impending doom.  So, when Zack Smith scored with just 1:42 off the clock, things seemed to be going exactly to plan for Ottawa.

Unfortunately, for Sens fans, it was all downhill from there.  3 goals on 5 shots on net gave Montreal a 3-1 lead after 1.  A shorthanded wrister by Lars Eller was followed by 2 rebound goals off the sticks of Tomas Plekanec & Mike Cammalleri.  Craig Anderson didn’t look particularly strong on the first, while being one of many to blame for the other two.  A purely dominant Senator team was trailing a Canadiens team that was making the most of its chances.

The second didn’t fare much better for Ottawa. Louis Leblanc scored his second of the season just 2:03 in and ended the night for Craig Anderson.  Alex Auld would come in and look much better, despite giving up a goal to PK Subban, who was returning to the lineup after being a healthy scratch last game.

The Habs would go on to win their first game under Randy Cunneyworth, and first in 6 games,  6-2.  Raphael Diaz assisted on all 3 Montreal goals in the first period, while Louis Leblanc, Mike Cammalleri, Mathieu Darche & PK Subban all had 2 points a piece.

The Senators lose an important game in their quest to stay in a playoff position and hope to get back on track Friday against the Calgary Flames.
