Game 3: Senators Lose 1-0 to Rangers

Check out the highlights

The leadup to this game was all about whether or not the Senators captain would actually suit up.  Some said that it was impossible since it was just mere days away from sustaining a concussion.  Others spouted the fact that No. 11 has defied the odds before and come back way before he was supposed to.  Unfortunately for the eternal optimists, it was revealed a couple of hours before game time that Alfredsson would not play.  Ottawa would have to compete without their heart and soul.

Or would they?  For 2 periods of play, the Senators brought everything to the New York Rangers.  Whether it be point shots, bad angle shots, cross crease shots, blocked shots or saved shots, Ottawa was actually the aggressor against the No. 1 seed.  Don’t get me wrong, the Rangers got their chances.  But when they did, either Craig Anderson made a spectacular save or somebody got in front of the Ranger shot, deflecting it away.

Cue the third period where heartbreak would strike.  At 7:35, a Dan Girardi shot came off the end boards and right to Brian Boyle, who backhanded the puck by Anderson and made it 1-0.  After that, the Senators had numerous opportunities but were unable to beat Lundqvist, including a Kyle Turris chance alone in front of the net.

1-0 was the final score as the Rangers took a 2-1 series lead.  Game 4 goes Wednesday night at Scotiabank Place.
