Game 4: Senators Win 3-2 (OT) Over Rangers

Check out the highlights

This game was incredible.

But it didn’t start off that way for Senator fans.  Ottawa fell behind 2-0 after a couple of power-play goals in the first period from Anton Stralman & Ryan Callahan.  The mood in the arena was grim and some Sens fans were already counting their team out.

Not so fast.  Cue the comeback kids.

It all began when Matt Carkner stepped out of the penalty box and sent a pass across to Milan Michalek on a 2 on 1.  Michalek made no mistake, scoring his first goal of the postseason, on a wicked backhand that eluded Lundqvist and it was 2-1.

Then, disaster struck, well, potential disaster.  During a drive to the net on the PP, Jason Spezza ducked down low and tried to sneak by Marc Staal.  Instead, Staal hit Spezza nastily in the head area, sending him crashing to the ice and directly to the locker room.  Spezza would later reveal that he had suffered a stinger and returned for the third period.

In the meantime, on the same power-play, Sergei Gonchar’s point shot snuck through Lundqvist and crossed the goal line to tie the game at 2.  SBP was absolutely rocking and those that had doubted were on their feet, waving their towels and cheering on their beloved team.

After a third period of back and forth, this one needed overtime. And at 2:42 of the extra frame, Jim O’Brien dropped the puck to Kyle Turris, who unleashed a wicked wrist shot over the glove hand of Henrik Lundqvist to give the Senators the victory.

Game 5 is Saturday night in New York City.
