Jason Spezza’s Fantastic Year

Jason Spezza had a fantastic season for the Ottawa Senators in 2011-12.  Spezza finished the campaign 4th in league scoring, tallying 34 goals & 50 assists in 80 games.  His goal total matched a career-high he set in 2006-07 & 2007-08, while his point total was its highest since 2007-08.  No. 19’s overall game also improved, finishing second in the league in faceoffs won (909) and seeing time on the Senators’ penalty kill.  Spezza’s maturity as a hockey player and person certainly bodes well for the Ottawa organization as he looks to be the natural replacement for Daniel Alfredsson as captain.

From locker cleanout day, here’s Jason Spezza’s comments when asked to assess this past season, next year’s expectations, his personal success & the criticism he faces.
