Senators Development Camp Day 5

The Senators held their usual development camp on-ice practice this morning at 9:30 am, followed by an off-ice workout in the afternoon at Scotiabank Place.  Today’s session focused on the defensive side of the game.

Off-Season Tidbit – While the Senators were in it until the end, unrestricted free agent defenceman Justin Schultz decided to join the Edmonton Oilers when free agency opens on July 1st.  Undoubtedly, phone calls from both Wayne Gretzky & Paul Coffey, as well as an opportunity to be the No. 1 offensive defenceman on a team of high profile offensive prospects swayed his decision towards Edmonton.  Erik Karlsson’s presence here in Ottawa would most likely have made him the second option, rather than the first.

Schultz will sign 2-year deal for $925,000 per, with a signing bonus of $92,500. Bonuses $2.85 million, for an overall cap hit of $3.775.
