Senators Buy Out Bobby Butler

The Ottawa Senators announced the buy out of forward Bobby Butler’s contract on Friday afternoon.  The total amount of the buyout totals $400,000 and is able to occur “because he’s under 26 and the organization is allowed to buy out one contract after a player settles an arbitration case.” (courtesy Bruce Garrioch)  With the move, the Senators will have a $75,000 cap hit during the 2012-13 season and a $200,000 hit in 2013-14.

Butler was originally signed by Ottawa on March 29, 2010 after playing with the NCAA’s New Hampshire Wildcats.  The 25 year old showed promise in 2010-11, recording 21 points in 36 games, but was unable to produce despite multiple opportunities in 2011-12.  He finished with a mere 6 goals & 16 points in 56 games.

Butler’s goal vs Montreal on April 7, 2011 – probably his best in a Senator uniform.
