Lockout 2012-13 News & Notes Sept 19

Well, thanks to the lockout, the Senators season has yet to begin.  It also means that posts on this website will be few and far between until a deal is in place, but I will try to pass along any news (and the occasional article) when I can.  Having said that, here are few news and notes that have occurred since the lockout came into effect.

Milan Michalek out 4-6 weeks – After sustaining a torn abdominal muscle while training in late August, Michalek had surgery on September 11, 2012 to repair the injury.  He is expected to make a full recovery and is not considered “locked out,” meaning he will paid from October 11, until he’s deemed fit.

Gonchar signs with Russia’s Mettalurg – Along with former teammate, Evgeni Malkin, the 38 year old defenceman signed a deal with the KHL’s Mettalurg through the end of the 2012-13 season.  Gonchar has 1 year and $5.5 million left on his contract.

Spezza signs with Swiss League’s Rapperswil-Jona –   Spezza has signed with Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the Swiss A League for the duration of the lockout.  Spezza joins fellow NHLers Logan Couture (Geneva-Servette), Rick Nash and Joe Thornton (HC Davos) in the league.
