Senators Lose 3-2 (OT) to Hurricanes

Let’s call tonight’s game “the one that got away.”  The Senators dominated the Hurricanes for 60 minutes, only to come away with a single point as Jay Harrison scored in overtime to give Carolina a 3-2 victory.  Ottawa outshot the Canes 47-26 (17-3 in the second period)  but could not beat Cam Ward.  Ward gave up goals to Erik Karlsson in the first & Daniel Alfredsson in the second but shut the door the rest of the way.

The Hurricanes were able to tie the game up on the power-play in the third period when Daniel Alfredsson was called for shooting the puck over the glass.  Alex Semin converted a pass from Eric Staal, sending the game into overtime. Chad LaRose scored the other goal for Carolina.

Mike Lundin made his Senator debut, playing 19:24 and registering 3 shots on goal.  Erik Karlsson totalled 11 shots on goal, placing him first in the NHL in that category as a defenceman.

Eric Staal extended his point streak to 7 games with his assist on Semin’s goal.

Coach MacLean, Daniel Alfredsson & Erik Karlsson talk about the disappointing loss…
