Senators Win 2-1 (SO) Over Canadiens

Thank you Ben Bishop.

That’s what every Senator player, employee and fan should be saying tonight after the 6 foot 7 goaltender stole the extra point away from the Montreal Canadiens.  Bishop made 44 saves, many of them in spectacular fashion, to extend the Senators winning streak to 5 games and sweep the 4 game homestand.

The Canadiens played an excellent game, dominating the offensive zone and not allowing the Senators to sustain any sort of pressure in their own.  They rang pucks off of every post imaginable but were only able to beat Ben Bishop once as Andrei Markov’s blast from the point tied the game late in the second period.  It was an impressive performance and one that normally would result in a 2 point regulation victory.

But, along with a red hot opposing goaltender, the Habs had to deal with being behind.  Likely a bit cold due to the majority of play happening in the other end, Carey Price allowed a David Dziurzynski slapshot from just across the blue line to sneak past him to open the scoring.  It didn’t deflate the team, but it certainly didn’t make things any easier.

As everyone knows, once a game goes to a shootout, its anyone’s to take.  Just leave it to destiny to put the player who wasn’t even supposed to play in the position to win it….and win it he did as Peter Regin fooled Carey Price to give the Senators the win.

The Senators next game is on the road in Boston this upcoming Thursday.

Peter Regin on contributing to the win, how he is feeling physically & his impact on the game when it looked as though he wasn’t even going to play.
