Senators Lose 3-2 (SO) to Islanders

The Ottawa Senators were able to manage a point but were unable to snap their losing streak as the New York Islanders defeated the Sens 3-2 in a shootout.  For the first time all season, the Senators have lost 3 games in a row and have dropped eight of nine on the road to fall to 3-6-2 away from home.

It looked bleak for the Senators late in the third period as Michael Grabner pounced on a loose puck in the offensive zone and snapped one by Robin Lehner to take the lead with only 3:29 left.

But when Kyle Okposo took a penalty for tripping, Patrick Weircioch evened the score with his first ever NHL goal at 18:12 of the final frame, sending the match to overtime.

Shootout goals by Frans Nielsen & John Tavares put the game away for the Islanders, who improved to 3-8-1 at home.

Notes: Harry Zolnierczyk was suspended 4 games for his hit on defenceman Mike Lundin.
