Senators Win 3-0 Over Rangers

It really came down to 1 goal.

Despite the fact the final was by a difference of 3, it was Andre Benoit’s power-play goal in the second period that sealed the deal for the Ottawa Senators.

The first half of the game was a disorganized mess. Endless turnovers forced the goaltenders (or lone defencemen) into desperate saves.  Poor execution allowed them to survive pressured onslaughts. Any type of momentum was quickly reversed by the opposing team.

It was an ugly game that dumped even more importance on scoring the first goal of the contest.  When Guillaume Latendresse scored his 5th goal in the past 9 games to make it 2-0, it virtually guaranteed victory for Ottawa. Colin Greening’s empty net goal was icing on the cake.

Ben Bishop made 24 saves to record his 2nd NHL shutout.  His save on Ryan McDonough in the third period was the highlight of the game.  Mika Zibanejad & Chris Neil tallied 2 assists a piece.

The Senators swept the season series with the Rangers and are now just 2 points back of the Boston Bruins, fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Chris Neil discusses why he left the game in the 2nd period (only to return) and whether or not he thought he could come back.
