Senators Lose 2-1 to Panthers

Another devastating loss to a non-playoff contender Sunday night for the Senators as they fell to the Florida Panthers 2-1.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort as Ottawa outshot the opposition 41-17.  If not for Scott Clemmensen, the Senators would have came away with an easy 2 points.  Marcel Goc evened the game in the second period when he deflected a Tomas Fleischmann shot past Craig Anderson. Dmitry Kulikov’s power-play goal in the third iced it for the Panthers.  Cory Conacher scored the Senators lone goal in the first period, his first as a Senator.

Craig Anderson didn’t see much work in his return to the goal crease, making 15 saves on just 17 shots.  It was his first start since suffering an ankle injury against the Rangers on February 21st.

It was Ottawa’s fourth straight regulation loss, leaving them just 2 points up on both the Rangers & Islanders.

The Senators next see action on Tuesday against Ben Bishop and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
