Senators Optional Skate May 4

The Senators held an optional skate at Scotiabank Place this afternoon.  On the ice were Cory Conacher, Matt Kassian, Patrick Wiercioch, Robin Lehner, Andre Benoit, Jim O’Brien, Peter Regin & Mike Hoffman.

Afterwords, Coach Paul MacLean had plenty to say in regards to the war of words that has been sparked between he and the Montreal Canadiens, as well as the current news surrounding the team.

Here are the Coles Notes:

– Mike Hoffman & Jason Spezza both skated today.  Neither are expected to be available soon.

– Lineup changes won’t be finalized until tomorrow.

– There will be roughly 10 players joining the team from Binghamton. Some for health reasons, some for orientation, some are Black Aces.  Names include Lawson, Borowiecki, Stone, Da Costa, Prince.  MacLean on the callups, “I don’t know all of their names … or numbers for that matter.” (via @erinnicks)

– MacLean in response to being called a “bug-eyed, fat walrus” by Brandon Prust – “Bug-eyed? That’s new. Walrus? Meh. Too easy. But I’ll tell you one thing: I am NOT fat. Husky, maybe. But NOT fat.” (Via @erinnicks)

– MacLean also reiterated the intent of his comments were to defend his player.

Meanwhile, Eric Gryba also made his first comments since being handed a 2-game suspension for his hit on Lars Eller.  He was disappointed with the NHL’s decision and did not feel he targeted the head. Gryba continued by saying he had not yet reached out to Eller, but feels awful about what happened. “Nothing is going to change about my game. Hockey hit with bad outcome.” (Via @erinnicks)

Meanwhile, for the Canadiens, Max Pacioretty & Brian Gionta are considered day-to-day and will be travelling with the team to Ottawa.
