Senators Notes Sep 17

Over the past week, there have been a number of newsworthy items to discuss within the Senators organization.  They were:

The Senators agreed to terms with defenceman Jared Cowen on a 4-year deal that averages $3.1M a season.  Cowen joined the team in Saskatoon on Monday and will fly back with them to Ottawa.

The Senators named forward Jason Spezza as captain of the team.  He becomes the 8th captain in team history and replaces the departed Daniel Alfredsson.  Chris Neil and Chris Phillips will serve as the alternates.

The Senators signed 2013 1st round draft pick Curtis Lazar to a 3-year entry level deal.  Lazar was the 17th player chosen overall at the NHL Draft after recording 93 points in 141 career WHL contests.

Finally, the Senators elected to reduce their training camp roster by 4 on Tuesday – sending forward Vincent Dunn, defenceman Ben Harpur, goaltender Francois Brassard and goaltender Chris Driedger back to their junior clubs.
