Senators Lose 4-3 (SO) to Stars

It looked as though they had found a new way to lose.

After rallying to tie the game at 2 midway through the second, freshly recalled Mark Borowiecki accidently put the puck into his own net to give the Stars the lead in the final frame.  Luckily, with just 9.6 seconds left in regulation, Bobby Ryan snuck a shot through the legs of Kari Lehtonen to steal a point and give the young defenceman some relief.

However, during the overtime period, Stars’ rookie Valeri Nichushkin rushed the net and collided with Craig Anderson.  Anderson laid motionless on the ice and was eventually taken out on a stretcher.  The Senators’ goaltender was seen walking under his own power after the game and was said to be suffering from a stiff neck.  He will be further evaluated by doctors and is unlikely to play on Tuesday.

Robin Lehner came into the game, finished the overtime period and faced the Stars in the shootout.  Unfortunately for Ottawa, they were unable to complete the comeback as Jamie Benn was the lone skater to score a goal.

It was Ottawa’s 5th straight loss and second straight on home ice in a shootout.  They next see action in Columbus on Tuesday.

Thoughts from the game.

1. Bobby Ryan – Ryan was a force all night – creating offensive chances, dishing out body checks & controlling the puck.  This guy is the real deal.

2. Jared Cowen – Time to sit him.  Cowen’s mis-timed pinch resulted in the first goal of the game.  He can be seen skating around aimlessly at times, not knowing where he’s supposed to be.  Right now, he’s a liability on the ice.
