Senators Practice Nov 13

After an embarrassing 5-0 loss to a struggling Flyers team, the Senators held practice at Canadian Tire Centre Wednesday afternoon.  The entire Hockey Operations department (Bryan Murray, Tim Murray, Pierre Dorion & Randy Lee) decided to attend in hopes of figuring out what may be wrong with this club.

For the third straight day, Erik Condra took to the ice while Chris Phillips was missing from action.

Here were the lines:

Michalek-Spezza-Conacher

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan

Greening-Smith-Neil

Kassian-Grant-Zibanejad (Condra extra)

D-pairings – Methot-Karlsson, Cowen-Wiercioch, Borowiecki-Gryba (Corvo extra)

Anderson-Lehner

Practice ended after 43 minutes of the same drill – breaking out of the defensive zone cleanly and with added pressure.  Paul MacLean would then stay on the ice and have a 1×1 with Mika Zibanejad. (It was later learned that Zibanejad prompted this meeting – asking questions as to how to get better.  MacLean told him to not be “so cautious.”)

Afterwards, Coach MacLean said that the one-drill practice was due to the fact that when this team struggles, its because they cannot get out of their zone quickly.  MacLean also added that Chris Phillips was given the day off for maintenance and will likely practice tomorrow.
