Senators Lose 2-1 (SO) to Sabres

The Ottawa Senators desperately needed 2 points but only came away with one.

While the Buffalo Sabres are considered one of the weakest teams in the Eastern Conference, they gave the Sens everything they could handle Tuesday night.  Ryan Miller was excellent in the first period, limiting Ottawa to one goal despite numerous opportunities to light up the scoreboard.

A Zemgus Girgensons goal midway through the second period tied the game, but could have been prevented if both Joe Corvo & Robin Lehner hadn’t been so non-chalant on Christian Ehrhoff’s rebound.

It became a goalie’s game after that as Ryan Miller & Robin Lehner matched each other save for save.  The game went to shootout and lasted 10 rounds, eventually ending in the Sabres favour on a Girgensons goal.  With the win, Ryan Miller took possession of the NHL record for most shootout wins with 46.

The Senators have  day off Wednesday before facing the Sabres again Thursday night.  Anything less than a home victory will most likely send the Sens Army into a deep panic.
