Senators Lose 4-3 (OT) to Avalanche

Yet another example of this team not playing a complete game.  Just 5 minutes in, the Senators were down 2-0.  The next 45 minutes were filled with dominant game-play by Ottawa, controlling both the offensive and defensive zones and taking a 3-2 lead.  The final 10 minutes and overtime period looked to be manned by a Senator team out of gas, thoroughly out-played and eventually coughing up both the tying and winning goals to the Avalanche.

Clarke MacArthur scored in the first to extend his streak to 4 straight games with a goal.  Jason Spezza, scoring on the PP in his return from injury and Kyle Turris tallied in the second to give the Senators a well-deserved lead.

But when the Avalanche decided to attack late in the third and use their speed – the Senators couldn’t handle it, eventually leading to Paul Stastny’s tying goal after a rush to the net by Gabriel Landeskog.  Tyson Barrie’s overtime goal was just a continuation of Colorado’s domination as the Senators never got settled.

After all that, Ottawa still got a point and continue to climb their way back into the playoff race.  A Saturday night matchup against the Nashville Predators is next up.
