Senators Lose 6-3 to Hurricanes

An afternoon game against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Even before puckdrop, the Ottawa Senators didn’t stand a chance.

The Senators struggles with afternoon starts this season have been well documented, winning just 1 of their many opportunities.  But Carolina’s dominance of the Senators at home is also a well-known fact.  Including this afternoon’s victory, Carolina is 11-0-1 in its last 12 home games against Ottawa.  Absolutely incredible.

Of course, it didn’t help that Robin Lehner was completely off his game.  Playing for the first time in 5 contests, Lehner was pulled after the second period, behind 5-3.  The Swedish goaltender made just 17 saves on 22 shots and allowed a couple of goals that he certainly would like back.  Ottawa could not afford  a performance like this in such an important matchup.  They now fall behind Carolina (and 4 other teams) in the race for the final playoff spot.
